Running Wild Reviews

It was wonderful to see so many friends at the official opening of Running Wild, including Alison Steadman, Christopher Biggins, Charlotte Wakefield and Josie Lawrence (who returns with the Comedy Store Players on 3 July), not to mention cast members from this summer’s productions of Henry V and Jesus Christ Superstar. Take a look at our opening night gallery.

And the first reviews are in:

★★★★ “What an audacious and imaginative start this is to the Open Air Theatre’s season…stylishly directed by Timothy Sheader and Dale Rooks” Evening Standard

★★★★ “This absorbing visual feast gradually develops from a lost-in-the-jungle survival story into a morality tale that pitches a brave child against murderous poachers intent on killing endangered wildlife for profit…take a hankie. You'll need it.” WhatsOnStage

★★★★ “It’s a crowdpleaser, mainly thanks to inspiring and energetic staging, namely some amazing puppet animals brought to beautifully articulated life by worldclass ‘War Horse’ puppeteers Finn Caldwell and Toby Olié” Time Out

★★★★ “The puppetry is exquisite…and as the sun goes down over Regent’s Park and Paul Anderson’s atmospheric lighting kicks in, the magic really hits you.” Daily Telegraph
